Fraudulent Unemployment Insurance Claims

| February 28, 2021

In 2020 there were many identity theft cases involving unemployment insurance claims and employer fraud.  Now that tax season is in full swing, you may receive a Form 1099-G showing unemployment benefits paid.

If you did not receive unemployment benefits in 2020 or the Form 1099-G has the incorrect amount paid you must contact your State’s Unemployment Department to report identity theft fraud and or request a corrected Form 1099-G with the correct amount.

Many States have links on their websites to report claimant and employer fraud or click the link below to find your appropriate state fraud hotline.
